Gov. Pawlenty signed the statewide smoking ban into law this morning outside an Eagan restaurant. Minnesota will outlaw smoking in bars, restaurants and other establishments starting Oct. 1.
Yeah! This is awesome for people like me that are adversely affected by cigarette smoke.
Amen! I’m glad there’s a ban on smoking coming into place. I’m so tired of smokers insisting on their need to smoke over the greater need to be considerate and not smoke, especially those of us that have had to suck secondhand smoke for a significant portion of our lives.
This law is a mistake. It’s bad for business. If I own a bar, then I should have the legal right to either make it a smoking or a non-smoking establishment. The government should not have any mandate in this space. Now, those same customers that I typically serve will have to go somewhere else because of someone else’s pipedream. I consider this a second movement of stupidity in government – just like prohibition, and we all know how well that one worked out.
Of course, there are zealots on either side, just like some of the others that post here. I find it humorous, however, to read their comments, and that they fail to realize that: 1.) this is the US, and 2.) you are free to leave the same location, just a smoker is free to enter it.
I’m still waiting for the ban on fat oil moguls sticking it to the American working class with overpriced gas!
