I had my weekly status meeting with my boss today. She asked me if I would be interested in taking some “on call” hours and if so, how many I could do.
According to my contract, if I were to be officially assigned to work on call, I get paid for 15 minutes of every hour I am on call if nothing comes up that needs my attention. If I am required to do anything to fix an issue, I am guaranteed 2 hours of pay, even if it only takes 5 minutes to fix.
I told my boss that I would be willing to get scheduled for up to 96 hours a week. I came up with this number by creating a spreadsheet that had each hour blocked for each day. I then took each of the times that I have specific things scheduled, like church and small group and hockey, and then added up all of the other blocks.
If I were to get assigned all 96 hours, I would get 60% more paycheck for almost nothing! I expect that I will get about half of that time because there are two of us systems analysts here now and I am sure Tim will want some.
But holy cow, even if I only get 48 hours a week of on call, I will still benefit 30% more income. That means that I can definitley afford the house that I just bought, even if Solly were not planning to rent the basement apartment from me…
I prayed that God would surprise me again today, and wow, what a surprise!
Wow! I hope you get the hours you need to keep things going 🙂
