Everyone makes mistakes. A truly intelligent person is someone who can learn from mistakes enough to fix them.

So, is there an good story behind this tidbit of wisdom? 😉
Indeed. Our database admin made a mistake this morning that caused one of the applications that I support to fail. He was able to figure out what happened and how it happened. He then was able to fix it and cause the application to work again.
He was apologetic about making a stupid mistake and I came up with the above saying.
I have no idea if I have heard it before, or if it is truly out of my mouth…
In the famous words of Carl Windslow from the episode when Eddie crashes his car into the living room… “Son, there are three types of people in this world – dumb ones, smart ones, and wise ones. Dumb people never learn from their own mistakes. Smart people learn from their mistakes. Wise people learn from other’s mistakes. I was hoping you’d be a wise one.” Then Steve Urkel likely knocks something over and says “did I do that?”
I think the saying is yours, Jonn. It’s true. But we all have to learn to be truly intelligent and fix mistakes and learn from them.
