Ask for it and God will give it to you.

One of the questions that came up last night was if we are supposed to ask God for things and he supposedly will give them to you, (Ask and it shall be given unto you), what is to stop you from asking for something that is not good for you? Why does he not always give you what you ask for?

I actually had an answer to these questions, or at least partly. As your walk with Jesus carries you closer to God, your desires gradually change to be in line with God’s desires for you. So eventually, you will not be asking for something that is not good for you and God will be more likely to give you what you want, because it is what he wants for you.

That’s my little bit of spiritual wisdom for today…

  1. Jonn, you should read James 4:3. You don’t have to be really close to God to know what to ask for and to wind up getting it. You just need to ask for things with the right motives and you need to think about whether what you are asking for is just for you or if it’s something you believe God wants for you.

  2. Thanks. James was mentioned last night but I couldn’t remember the exact verse. It’s okay because the context of the question didn’t really fit it. The above answer that I had read somewhere someplace seemed to make a lot more sense to all of us as we talked more about it.
