I was reading an article from Wired about a Neanderthal DNA test. It says that, while still inconclusive, there is a good chance that Neanderthal man is a separate being than modern man. It got me thinking back to the great flood of Noah. I wonder if most of the world population at that time were Neanderthal and the flood is what removed them.

Perhaps the differences between Neanderthal and modern man is what allowed humans in the old testament to live for hundreds of years? Adam lived 930 years, Methuselah the longest lived of the patriarchs lived 969 years. Noah lived 950 years.

Last weekend Becca and I went camping. Well, we didn’t actually camp. The Young Adults group went up to St Croix State Park on Friday and stayed until Sunday. I was one of the groomsmen in Nathan and Emie Buege’s wedding on Friday evening, so Becca and I decided we were going to head up to the campsite on Saturday morning.

The wedding was very well done. Becca got some ideas because the ceremony was held in the same facility that ours will be. Johnny gave me some pictures that he took of me in my Tux.

Saturday morning did not come as early as I had planned. I was up at 9:00 or so, rather than 7AM. We decided that we weren’t going to stay that night at the campground, so we grabbed the last puppy remaining and brought her up with us. There were some interested people, but it wasn’t the right time. We know all about timing in regards to the puppies, because we are planning on taking two from the next litter. It wasn’t the right time for us to have them now.

On the drive home Becca and I were talking about how we hope that the puppy gets a wonderful home, one that won’t be abusive and she will be taken care of. While we were talking, Becca had a revelation; this must be what God feels like each time a baby is born. He would like each of his children to have a wonderful home too.

Last weekend, Pastor Bob was talking about what he thinks Heaven will be like. One of the things that he mentioned is that in the bible, it says that we will all have new bodies. Pastor Bob is looking forward to that day because he can play basketball again and not do “sissy” things like elipticals.

I was thinking about that statement recently. It’s funny that he said that, especially after volleyball last night. In our second set of games, while we won all of them to give us a 6-0 record, I was feeling my age and lack of athleticism more than any other time I can remember. I felt like I was sluggish and not nearly as agile as I once was. Even the difference from last year was noticeable to me. I must concede though that it might be partly to do with the change over from using Hockey muscles to using Volleyball muscles too, but still…

Even though I am 20 years younger than Pastor Bob, I am starting to share his anticipation for our new bodies in Christ!

It’s good to know that Satan’s battle is not making as much headway as we are led to believe. According to this article; 91% of American’s say that they believe in God, 48% reject the theory of evolution, and 34% of American college graduates believe the Biblical account of creation!

It also says that 82% of people attribute themselves to be Christians. I wonder how much of that population is born again and actually have a relationship with Christ?

This morning’s “Insight for Today” talks about Hope. It didn’t hit me exactly, but it did make me think back to the biggest trial period I have had in my life yet. I then thought about my friends that are going through similar trying periods.

“Take from us our wealth and we are hindered. Take our health and we are handicapped. Take our purpose and we are slowed, temporarily confused. But take away our hope and we are plunged into deepest darkness . . . stopped dead in our tracks, paralyzed. Wondering, “Why?” Asking, “How much longer? Will this darkness ever end? Does He know where I am?”

Then the Father says, “That’s far enough,” and how sweet it is! Hope revives and washes over us.

Are you ready for a light at the end of your tunnel? Look! There it is in the distance. It may be tiny, but it’s there. You made it! Your Father knew exactly where He was going…”

Please read the whole Insight.
