64 Bits!

I got my hard ware last night. I was up until the butt-crack of dawn, well, not exactly… I was only up until midnight. So far, I am impressed. Going from an 32 bit Athlon XP to a 64 bit Athlon X2 is pretty huge. It is only 240 mhz faster, but the X2 means that it has two cores. So basically, it is two processors on one chip. I haven’t had much time to test applications and games yet, but I have been able to run VMWare and it feels almost like real time.

I did get two video cards so I can run in SLI (scan-line interleaving) mode, but I found out my power supply can’t handle the extra card at this time. I have an order in to get a new power supply later this week. Oh, and my keyboard died last night too. Wierd.

There has only been one real issue with this. I have been spending too much time working on the computer and I have neglected spending as much time with Becca.

I am sorry, my dear.

This is the hardware that I got:

Abit KN8 SLi motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 4600 processor
2x eVGA GeForce 7600GT video cards
Samsung 500GB SATA hard drive

  1. Kind of. I got a new Motherboard, Processor, Video Card, and Power Supply, mouse and keyboard on the way. I am using my old RAM, case, monitor and speakers. The stuff I got was top-of-the-line two years ago. I determined that it was cheaper to go this way and build it (like I have every computer since my first one, excluding laptops) than it would be to buy it from a place like Dell.

  2. I really am sorry. And yes, I did have fun with it. Just like you will have the first time this spring that you go out with Cricket! 🙂
